India Island Edition

Adventurous Andaman

Day One:

Took the flight from Mumbai to Port Blair the capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Via Chennai); touch down at 12:30 in the afternoon.

The Airport is basically operated by Air Force and hence the civilian flights are upto 4 pm only.

From Airport to City Centre:

Two option: A: Bus; Walk across to the Main road just outside the airport which takes you to aberdeen bazaar which is the city centre

B: Take a taxi to your hotel directly; slightly costly option but time consuming one.

I bought a package upon my arrival who escorted me in a car to the Hotel where after taking some rest and having lunch; I proceed for City Tour which covered the following:

Anthropological museum which gives insight into various tribes belonging to the Island; their history and development.

Next Stop, Samudrika Museum which displays the aquatic life of the Island

You can skip the aforesaid options if you wish to save on time or history is not your kind of thing.

Then we proceed to the sun set point which is quite relaxing way to end the day and it got some great scenery.

The Last stop for the day Cellular Jail erstwhile prison where Indian freedom fighters were subject to brutal torture in isolated cells; the sound and light show that relieves those moments of pre-independence India which a must watch for every Indian. Entry ticket INR 20 per person and show takes place in Hindi and English.

After dropping me at the hotel; I have dinner and sleep early as next day I have wake up early for Three Island Tour.

 Day Two:

I arrive at the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex Jetty which is departure point for three island tour:

The First stop is North Bay Island: Here you can do snorkelling and glass boat tour. It is also known a coral island but there aren't many corals to see; if you wish to see corals havelock is better option.

Next up ross island a more picturesque place with beautiful beach and has lots of deers present here.

Finally stop is viper island which has only one thing to see a gallow which is both dilapidated and creepy; something that you can definitely give a miss.

Tips:

  • Lunch is part of the package (both options available veg and non veg)
  • Carry hat and sun glasses as it can get quite humid.
  • Take a camera as the tour offers good opportunity to capture some memorable pictures.

End of Day; tomorrow its time to head to havelock island:

Day Three:

Time to head to Phoenix Bay Jetty to catch the 6 am ferry to Havelock  which takes between 90 to 120 minutes depending on weather conditions.

You need to book the ticket 3 to 4 days in advance or if you are a solo traveller add your self to a group to better your chances of getting the ticket.

From the jetty at Havelock you have the option of taking bus or jeep to reach the beaches.

The first stop is radhanagar beach also know as beach number 7 considered to be one of the best beaches in Asia; a ideal place for snorkelling.

Next up is Elephant Beach which is walking distance from here and another spot suitable for snorkelling

The last beach of the day is Kalapathar Beach which is situated at the other end of the island and you have to the option of bus or rickshaw to take you there; its a nice place to relax and see the sun setting down.

End the day with dinner as I have an early morning tomorrow to catch the ferry back to port blair.

Day Four:

Took the first ferry to port blair which took 2 hours to reach the phoenix jetty at 8 am.

The car was waiting at the ferry to pick me from the jetty to airport and covered two attractions en route;

The Corbyn's cove which is the closest beach to port blair and pretty clean and pristine water.

The joggers park of the city where you can get a nice view of the airport; have some photos clicked before heading to the airport to catch the flight.

That ends the trip; hope you like the post.
